Aaron Daniel Gaul, known to many as ADG, is an accomplished songwriter, musician and performer, writing music and performing on stage for roughly two decades in venues across the country. Currently local to the Harrisburg PA area, he has performed in venues such as the Abbey Bar @ Appalachian Brewing Company, HMAC Stage On Herr, the Whitaker Center and the Giant Center, and has recently been making appearances on the festival circuit, playing sets at Kipona, SHARE, and many Monkeylion & Trail’s End events … just to name a few. An ADG show is a bit more than you might expect from a solo acoustic artist. Along with a bounty of original “Folk-adelic Funk-Grass”, he also covers artists from a variety of styles including classic rock, blues, jazz, reggae, funk, new age, folk, bluegrass, pop and even rap. The exceptional part of this one man show is, by utilizing multiple instruments & percussion and aided by looping technology, he is able to layer rhythm, melody, and harmony to produce a unique and original live sound. In addition to the solo act, ADG is currently involved in various other music projects including the acoustic “Think Tank Trio”, and the Harrisburg based rock-fusion jam band “Husky Pants & the Rail”.
Imagine going out to enjoy a night of music, only to find that the band performs the same tired, over-played radio hits that every other band already plays.
Well, that’s not what you get with Think Tank Trio.
Think Tank Trio colors outside the lines and thinks outside the box when it comes to its repertoire. The trio, featuring local acoustic loop guru and vocalist Aaron Daniel Gaul (aka ADG), bassist Mike Dinse (The Green Onions) and percussionist Ffej Herb (herbie), performs a wide array of songs from genres as diverse as classic rock and jam to bluegrass, folk and old school country. You may even hear some reggae thrown in for good measure. Covering iconic artists such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and The Grateful Dead, the trio also tackles other more obscure acts like Phish, Talking Heads, Frank Zappa and many more. But make no mistake. Think Tank Trio is not merely a cover band. Its sets weave in and out of original compositions culled from ADG’s vast catalog of material. Additionally, the trio may break into lengthy improvisational passages and segues centered around Gaul’s utilization of his loop station, which allows him to layer guitar parts and percussive effects over top of the solid foundation of Dinse’s groovy bass lines and Herb’s textured rhythms, making the trio sound at times like a six-piece band!
