The Passionettes are a central Pennsylvania-based music act specializing in the “girl group” sound of the early to mid 1960s. They are a six-piece band featuring female vocalists Mary Weissenborn and Jennifer Hacker. Mary and Jen wear 1960s period make-up and outfits, poof and tease their hair into vintage 1960s hair styles and choreograph their movements the way the great girl groups of the era did. And these girls can sing!
The Passionettes perform girl group classics by The Supremes, Martha & The Vandellas, The Marvelettes, The Shangri-Las, The Crystals, The Chiffons, The Angels, and The Ronettes. You’ll also hear favorites by the great female vocalists of the era, including Dusty Springfield, Lesley Gore, Etta James, Lulu, and Nancy Sinatra.
But a Passionettes show is so much more than that. No two performances are alike, and there are always new surprises for their growing and loyal fan base. You never know what they’ll do next. They might play a fun 1960s era novelty song. They might play one of their trademark “mash-ups” where they unexpectedly blend two famous songs together to create something completely new and different. And you can always count on them to play obscure but instantly likeable should-have-been hits from the time period. The Passionettes perform the very best of the best songs of the era.
The four guys in matching bowling shirts making the music are Jeffrey “King Pleasure” King (keyboards), Mike Hoover (bass), Mike Banks (guitar), and Chris Bair (drums). They are some of the most accomplished, well-known, and respected musicians in the area. All four musicians are primarily known for their original music, but the guys all came together to back up The Passionettes because of their mutual love for the music of the time period. And they have brought along their well known creative juices, mixing up a big stew of authentic retro sounds to serve up throughout the performance.
The Passionettes appeal to everyone. Lifelong fans of the girl group sound relish the chance to hear the rarely played classics once again. Younger audiences enjoy the fun show, unique sound, danceability, and retro hipness. The Passionettes are a polished and accomplished rock & roll band creating a 1960s sight and sound experience. That’s The Passionettes!
